London Mobile Network
VMO2 had the highest Reliability OneScore followed by Vodafone, EE and Three. GWS Reliability OneScore takes into account voice call accessibility and retainability as well as data task completion rates; this also includes a weighting of the test results to reflect performance criteria that matter most to consumers (see consumer survey details and OneScore ranking approach explained below). GWS testing took place in London during a typical weekday, and involved a total of 18,114 attempted voice calls and 189,931 attempted data tasks across the four major operators. In addition, tests were performed using Samsung Galaxy S21+ devices and Rohde & Schwarz test equipment. GWS independently drove approximately 2,100 miles while testing in London. Testing took place during November and December 2021.
GWS conducted quantitative consumer polling with Censuswide. Fieldwork was undertaken between November and December 2021. The survey included over 2,000 respondents and was carried out online using smartphones. The figures have been weighted and are representative of all UK adults (aged 18+).
- Number of voice call tests: 18,114

OneScore Ranking Explained
In addition to measuring real-world network performance, GWS’ OneScore also looks at what consumers want from their wireless network in terms of data speed, coverage, video performance, voice quality and network reliability. In particular, GWS annually conducts third party polling of 2,000 consumers across the country.
As a result, by combining engineering-level testing with the results from current nationwide-level polling, GWS’ OneScore creates the most balanced picture of the mobile experience that consumers care most about today. Further, this combination of controlled, scientific testing along with in-depth consumer research results in the industry’s most comprehensive, realistic evaluation of network performance.
Network performance is often tested by looking only at factors like throughput or signal quality. While this provides a high-level overview of the state of a wireless network, what does it really mean for consumers using those networks? Would they rather be able to make a high-quality call, or do they only care about fast data speeds? To truly understand if networks are providing measurable benefits, it’s crucial to understand consumer expectations and behavior when using their mobile devices.
More specifically, our consumer survey includes questions asking respondents to rank the importance of different tasks they perform on their mobile device, as well as the importance of different aspects of network performance. Our network test results are then weighted relative to how consumers prioritize what’s important to them, and then evaluated accordingly.
